Mr. Bernard Joseph Marzalik

Nominingue

April 1934 - August 2024

Born April 11th, 1934 in Toronto, Canada. Loving husband to the late Theresa Anne Walsh, father to Linda, John, Mike and Joe Marzalik, grandfather to Lianne, Daniel and Paul Gagné, Shawn, Taiyo and Airi Marzalik, great-grandfather to Tessa, Rose Eleni Mihou and a soon-to-arrive baby boy.

Bernie was a man ahead of his time. He was a true scholar, hard worker and overall fascinating man. He worked his way up  from sales representative to the VP of Sales and Marketing at Ciba Geigy, and eventually to President of Ciba Vision by his late forties, before ultimately pursuing his childhood dream of owning a farm. On over 1000 acres in Acton ON, his next 17 years were spent following the tides of farming, a chapter of his life that created fond memories for so many.

Never one to retire, Bernard eventually sold the farm and moved with his wife to their chalet he built in the Laurentians while continuing to work on various business ventures in biofuels, housing, and trucking. He traveled across the globe during this time, Theresa forever by his side until her progressing Alzheimer’s required his full time care. For 9 years, he lovingly tended to her at their cabin in the woods, her mansion in the sky. A poetic ending to a 54 year romance.

Papa was a devoted woodsman who cherished the tranquility of nature. He could often be found on the dock listening to the call of the loons, searching for logs to pull out of the forest, swimming in his lake or chopping wood to prepare for the coming winters.  He embodied a simpler time and lived independently off the grid into his 90s.

Bernie found happiness in family, friends, music, learning, in nature, in his faith, and in a good bowl of ice cream. Social butterfly that he was, he would travel great distances to visit with friends and family, or sit on the front porch and call his grandchildren to check in. His love, generosity and kindness showed no bounds, and his wise words helped many who had lost their way.

He passed peacefully on the morning of August 5th in Nominingue, QC, in his dream home, immersed in the wilderness, surrounded by his greatest pride and joy, his family, and those who loved him. He will be sorely missed but forever remembered. We love you Papa, always.

A viewing will be held at Maison Funéraire Roussin, 1934 Chemin Ste Angélique, Saint-Lazare, QC J7T 2Y7, on Tuesday, August 13, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and again from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM as well as on Wednesday, August 14, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM
